Rick Stein President & Founding Partner
Rick brings over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry to establish Wellhouse Company by combining his vision, capital, and expertise. He is committed to building one of the finest regional insurance brokerage and risk management firms in Jacksonville by attracting qualified talent; cultivating and developing long-term client relationships; and providing proven leadership that’s augmented with an engaged Advisory Board.
Rick started in the insurance industry in 1992 with Palmer & Cay, a storied regional brokerage firm in the Southeast. He served as the President & CEO of their Florida operations throughout his tenure and later joined the Executive Committee and Corporate Board and ran the firm’s Program business.
He left Palmer & Cay in 2003 when it was acquired by Wells Fargo, so he could continue on an entrepreneurial path. He served as Co-CEO and Managing Partner at both Lanier Upshaw from 2005 to 2008 and Fletcher|Stein (formerly McNeill, Garrison & Fletcher) from 2008 until 2017.
Rick relishes spending time with his wife Rebecca, their four children, and their families, especially traveling to the beaches of 30A; researching and writing on health and wellness; enjoying the outdoors and staying physically active; and studying history, philosophy, and religion. He’s active in the community, currently serves on the board of Fresh Ministries, and formerly served on the boards of University of North Florida, Daniel Foundation, Jacksonville’s Museum of Science and History, and Episcopal High School of Jacksonville.
He holds an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Religion from Washington and Lee University where he graduated cum laude and was selected by faculty to receive the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Medallion.

Richard Stein Jr. Founding Partner
Richard began his career as an analyst and then associate at Inertia Advisors, a boutique investment bank in New York that focused on Financial Technology and specialized in Mergers and Acquisition advisory. He worked directly with the firm’s East Coast Managing Director and Co-founder to help take clients to market by building financial forecasts, drafting marketing presentations, helping position near term strategy and growth, and generally developing go-to-market initiatives.
He enjoyed working directly with his clients: understanding their place in the market, future potential, and risks that may be highlighted during the due diligence process of a capital raise or sale. That led him to a corporate development role at a private equity platform company, which he held briefly prior to being lured by his father, Rick, to help found Wellhouse Company.
Richard moved back to Riverside after stays in New York, Atlanta, and Jacksonville Beach. He’s a graduate of Sewanee – The University of the South and enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending time with his family and friends. He also serves on the boards of Beaver Street Enterprise Center, Fresh Ministries, and a renewable energy startup.
